A challenging situation
Challenging students
First, thank all the students for listening so well.
If it’s one or two students, trying moving them around ( This works if the students are
seated on the floor or at work tables). Try not to make any student a target/hero.
If a student is completely disruptive,  ask them if they are going to be able to
participate and follow the activity. Be clear to them about what you expect. BE
SUPPORTIVE AND MOTIVATIONAL.  Help them to aspire and inspire.
Pull them out right there and then.  Have them sit with teacher, do a written activity or
head down.  Never be mean or harsh, just clear. Depending on the situation, ask
them if they are ready to come back.  
Talk to them afterwards.
What are the ramifications for their behavior?
Never be lenient.

Challenging class
Are you making it fun for them?
Can you change the activity ?
Are you doing all the talking ?
Can they learn through doing and you not talking?
Trying to regain control
Reassert your control,  using your focus techniques

Focus techniques
Hands up. Hands folded. Hands in your lap. Thank you.
Clap three times
Arms in quiet position
Look at me. ( Then I clap three times)
Quiet in 10, quiet in 9, etc..



FINAL NOTES
Use your hands, voice, and body to teach and focus.
Motivate them, don’t chastize them.
Never focus on the difficult student, particularly with older students. They love the
attention.
If a student is disruptive when you first meet them, try to give them an opportunity to
shine.
CLARITY – CLARITY – CLARITY
Always acknowledge when you are at fault.
When you ask them to do a task, BE CLEAR about what is permissible and what is
not.
Create a supportive environment

Use good students to motivate others
Use a soft voice

Grade k – 3= “Please QUIETLY stand. Thank you for being such great listeners. I’m
going to count to ten and show if you can SLOWLY move into a circle. That was
wonderful. You are all so  amazing.U
Using time
Any grade = “ I would like you to write this down CLEARLY. You have 30 seconds.”
Walk around the room and recognize those that are doing well. If students are not
writing anything down, ask  them if you can help.
