Pre School Music Activity i'm currently doing a Pre School Music Residency and thought it might be helpful to write about my work. Being that I'm limited on time, please forgive the format.
Activity One - Warm Up Opened with call and response. I say something and the children copy. I say YAHOO, and then say YAHOO. I say YAHAY and they say YAHAY. I say wada wada wada and they say WADA WADA WADA. Activity Two - Steady Beat Song I use track one - Steady Beat song - call and response. They are seated on the floor. They are to sing the words back to me and copy my hand movement. When I feel they are ready, I have them march around on the carpet. Activity Three - March of the Tin Soldiers The children are standing in circle. On the pulse, they count with me 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 and then make a silly sounds (diga diga diga). While they are counting on the beat, they are moving they arms on the beat (think the Macarena). When I feel the are ready, they march on the beat. I also have them count in groups of eight, moving like tin soldiers in place. Activity Four - Closing Activity WAKE THE TREE Using Ravel's Bolero, I tell them a musical story with hand movement. For more information, please email me.
DESCRIPTION
The Steady Beat song is one I wrote many many years ago. I have since recorded it. It's available for download. The goal is for them to begin to feel the pulse in music. They demonstrate this by clapping on the beat, then marching on the beat. It also has a SIMON SAYS section.
